Asheville’s #1 Maternity Photographer shares pro tips for gorgeous Fall Maternity Photos in Asheville.
Fall is the positively one of the most magical times of the year in Western North Carolina wether you’re local or visiting Asheville! Our beloved Blue Ridge Mountains come alive each October with brilliant hues of reds, oranges and yellows! Asheville has long been a popular destination for couples vacationing in Asheville for their Baby Moon before their new baby arrives and I am often asked to shoot Maternity Portraits for them while they’re in town! It’s actually perfect because each of my Maternity Photoshoots in Asheville includes professional hair and makeup service (and a custom, couture Maternity Gown of your choice) ahead of the session, so my expectant mamas are all dolled up for a date night on the town after their Maternity Session! Within this blog post, I will share some pro tips for your planning your Fall Maternity Photos Asheville!
When should we shoot?
I typically schedule Maternity Portraits with expectant mothers between 30 – 33 weeks of gestation! There are a few reasons for this: The first reason is because 30 – 33 weeks is in the ‘safe zone’ — you’re probably not going into labor during this time frame! Also, 30 – 33 weeks is considered a sweet spot during pregnancy when your baby bump has POP’d but you’re usually not yet feeling uncomfortable, swelling or retaining water! Over the last fifteen years photographing pregnant women, I’ve found that most expectant mamas are usually feeling pretty good during this window of time, making it the perfect time to shoot Maternity Portraits in Asheville!
Where should we shoot our Fall Maternity Photos in Asheville?
Asheville has no shortage of stunning photo locations! I’ve actually put together a pretty great list of location options over on my website, located here: Location Options
My best advice for choosing a Portrait Location if you’re expecting is to select a location that doesn’t require a lot of hiking to get to! Some great options are Biltmore Estate, NC Arboretum (both of those have bathrooms nearby!) or the Blue Ridge Pakway!
If you’re hoping to shoot Fall Maternity Photos in Asheville, I would suggest shooting on the Blue Ridge Parkway if you’re hoping to shoot in the first 1-3 weeks of October. I would suggest shooting at Biltmore or the NC Arboretum if you’re hoping to shoot in the last two weeks of October as the fall foliage begins at higher elevations in early October and makes it’s way down to lower elevations late in the month!
But, what will I wear for my Fall Maternity Photos in Asheville?
Good news! I have a Maternity Client Closet, full of gorgeous, custom, couture Maternity Gowns for you to choose from! You can check out what’s available in my closet here: Maternity Client Closet
If you don’t find anything that sings to you there, you can always select a gown from Mama Bump Rentals! While I have a lovely selection of Maternity Gowns and other fun studio wardrobe on hand, I simply cannot keep every style, size and color on hand so, I often rent gowns from Mama Bump for my clients’ sessions!
What about Hair & Makeup?
Good news! Professional Hair and Makeup Service as well as a Maternity Gown of your choice from either my Client Closet or Mama Bump Rentals is included in your Creative Fee!
I have 2 amazing professional hair and makeup artists that I routinely work with to style my clients ahead of their Maternity Photos in Asheville!
If you’re thinking that maybe you would like to shoot your Maternity Photos in Asheville this fall, please reach out ASAP as my availability is limited to 5 expectant mamas each month and October is by far my busiest month so my shoot calendar fills up very quickly!
