If you’re planning to Visit Biltmore Estate during your vacation in Asheville, North Carolina, you might consider scheduling Family Portraits on the day that you visit Biltmore Estate because it is such a wonderful option for Family Portraits in Asheville, to commemorate your trip!

A Note about Logistics: A super Fun Fact, that most people don’t know — if you purchase your tickets from the ticketing office after 3pm, you’ll have access to the grounds that day until sunset AND the entire next day! There is so much to see and do at Biltmore. You could tour the house at 3:30 or 4 and shoot family portraits at 5:30 till sunset. Then you’ll be able to return the next day to explore the gardens, winery, restaurants, visit the clydesdale horses & the farm, romp around on playground, shop and book excursions like Land Rover Tours or Horseback Riding, etc.

A Note for Asheville Locals: If you’re local, don’t sleep on the Biltmore Annual Pass! Not only do you gain entrance to the house throughout the year (with entrance reservation), discounts on food, wine and merchandise, you can also access the grounds anytime! There are miles and miles of trails to explore, beautifully manicured gardens to walk through and lovely little spots for picnics with gorgeous mountain views and excellent people watching!

There are so many beautiful locations to choose from if you’re thinking about shooting Family Photos at Biltmore Estate! There are perfectly manicured tree lined pathways & gardens, lovely hillsides, grand mountain views and unbelievably gorgeous historic architecture! There are fountains & ponds, fields and an in insane greenhouse (called the observatory) that’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before!

A few of my absolute favorite locations to shoot Family Portraits at Biltmore Estate are:

The House — there are so many lovely vantage points to choose from, especially if capturing the memory of your visit to the estate itself is a priority for your Family Photos! Photos with the house and blue ridge mountains in the background, photos from the terrace or Italian gardens with the house from the side OR portraits close up with the beautifully intricate historic architecture!

The Gardens & Observatory — my absolute favorite areas for Family Photography at Biltmore Estate are in the gardens and observatory! The gardens are perfectly designed and manicured and change seasonally! The observatory is literally the most beautiful, fancy greenhouse that you’ve ever seen, filled with all kinds of flowers, succulents, orchids and even cactus!

Hot Pro Tip: If you want to shoot in the observatory, the best time of day for this is first thing in the morning when everyone else is just starting their house tour! It’s difficult to shoot in there at any other time of day as there are always visitors walking through there!

Fields, Hillsides and Mountain Views — The fields, hillsides and mountain views to be found on Biltmore Estate are breathtaking, quintessential Blue Ridge Mountain views! In the late afternoon, the sunlight is warm, diffused and dreamy for your Family Pictures at Biltmore Estate! It’s important to note that the vantage point for the mountain views is ‘from a distance’. From the house, in the distance, you can see the Blue Ridge Parkway mountains! It an important distinction to know whether you want the vantage point with the mountains in the distance OR if you want huge mountain views // being IN the mountains, those are two different things!
